DETAILS OF THE SCHEME
The Youth Development Fund (YDF) is a socio-economic program designed to support start-ups and expanding businesses. Established in the 2009/10 financial year, YDF aims to economically empower youth by providing funding structured as 50% loan and 50% grant. The Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs collaborates with stakeholders such as the Local Enterprise Authority to foster entrepreneurship and provide technical support through various government ministries and parastatals.
Objectives
- The objectives of the Youth Development Fund are to: Promote active participation of youth in the socio-economic development of the country. Encourage marginalized, unemployed, and underemployed youth to venture into sustainable and viable income-generating projects. Support the development of competitive, sustainable, and growth-oriented citizen-owned youth enterprises. Reduce rural-urban migration by fostering growth-oriented enterprises in rural areas. Create sustainable employment opportunities for young people through the development of sustainable projects.
